Access National Mortgage Taps Citron WorkSpaces to Design and Furnish New Offices
Wednesday, 22 October 2008 16:46

Louisville, Colo. — Citron WorkSpaces, Colorado’s environmentally focused office furniture resource partner, recently completed the design and installation of an innovative work environment for Access National Mortgage’s new Diamond Hill office space in Denver. Citron designers created private offices and modular workstations for the 10,000 square-foot space using cost-effective new furniture and panel systems.

The Citron team created an open plan "workstations" area with good acoustic privacy supplemented by a sound masking system to eliminate recognizable voice distraction. The workstations were manufactured by Teknion and are GREENGUARD certified. The plan features 80” high walls with upper “clerestory” glass to maximize flow of outside light throughout the space. Sliding doors provide additional privacy and minimize outside distractions.

Lenae Vandegrift, Sales Operations Manager for Access National Mortgage, said of the Citron WorkSpaces team, “From the very beginning, we really loved the sales team and the development team assigned to us. They were great — very patient, very thorough, and they didn’t mind educating us and answering multiple questions. They were easy to work with from day one.” She noted that when last-minute space changes were required, Citron staff ensured that all details were handled quickly and effortlessly.

At Access National Mortgage, the new office spaces incorporate curvilinear, wrap-around “cockpit”-style desks for convenience and ergonomic comfort. Meanwhile, floating, desk-mounted overhead storage allows natural light from exterior windows to reach the entire interior work area.

“We went to the Citron showroom to pick furniture and finishes” said Vandegrift. “They gave us multiple quotes, and showed that they really understood what we wanted. The different options they provided on different product lines helped us get the best quality within our budget, and that was really cool – we had low, middle and higher priced options to choose from.”

Citron President Kathey Pear said of the project, “It’s always exciting for us to create an entirely new workspace for companies. By improving the work environment with GREENGUARD-certified furniture, we provide greater comfort, enhanced privacy, and efficient use of space. We find that employees are happier and more productive — so it’s a valuable benefit for everyone involved.”

And, as Vandegrift notes, Citron’s ongoing service policy is critical for growing businesses like hers. “It’s great to have a one-stop shop for everything — including maintenance and anything we want to add going forward.”

Citron WorkSpaces Moves into New, Energy-Efficient Facility
Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:00

Environmental certification pending on consolidated space designed to make viewing and selecting furniture easier for customers.

Louisville, Colo. — Citron Work Spaces, Colorado’s environmentally focused office furniture resource partner, has moved into its newly constructed space at 197 S. 104th Street in Louisville. The facility, which took a year to design and build, is currently being evaluated for LEED® certification for commercial interiors.

The location gives Citron an 8,000-square-foot working showroom and 11,000 square feet of warehouse space, including a large used-furniture display area. It features a number of environmentally friendly features, including recycled street lamps from New Orleans in the main showroom; fluorescent lighting controlled by motion-sensing switches or timers; and water-conserving bathroom fixtures.

All the paint and adhesives used at the facility are non-toxic and water-based with low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions to protect indoor air quality; all appliances are ENERGY STAR-rated; and the furniture on display and used by Citron employees is GREENGUARD-certified for low chemical and particle emissions. Large windows bring natural light in, and the project used recycled, recyclable or renewable/sustainable products like bamboo flooring wherever possible.

Citron’s Director of Design, Kim Tyrrell, noted “Our motivation in designing this space was to go beyond just telling the good environmental story. We want to really live that story. We can talk to clients about sustainability until we’re ‘green in the face,’ but when they see us making this effort, and taking our own advice, and when they see what a showroom and green work environment can be like, that really drives the message home.”

As part of the process to have the facility certified under the LEED Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) standard, Tyrrell, Citron President Kathey Pear and several other designers and account managers are pursuing LEED accreditation, which will enable them to better assist clients interested in environmentally healthy workspaces. Citron is also working on a new online community resource to help mitigate the more than 8.8 million tons of office furniture that ends up as landfill waste. The site, which is scheduled to go live by the end of October, will help business owners, facilities managers, real estate professionals, and others who want to help keep furniture out of landfills.

The U.S. Green Building Council states that LEED-CI is the green benchmark for the tenant improvement market. It is the recognized system for certifying high-performance green interiors that are healthy, productive places to work; are less costly to operate and maintain; and have a reduced environmental footprint. LEED-CI gives the power to make sustainable choices to tenants and designers, who do not always have control over whole building operations.

About LEED Certification
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality. It was created by The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that certifies sustainable businesses, homes, hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods. USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education, and its LEED Green Building Rating System. For more information, visit www.usgbc.org.
